An angular star Character Candle™ inspired by Gothic architecture.
Designed as both a functional object and a striking geometric form. It feels at home styled alone as a statement piece, grouped in colour, on a festive mantlepiece, or lit as a quiet focal point on a table or shelf.
Inspiration
This design draws inspiration from the flying buttresses of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and the Japanese art of folding paper (Origami). When I visited Paris in 2011 and again in 2016, the elegant exterior supports stayed with me.
These arched stone structures lean outward and downward, carrying the weight of the cathedral’s soaring walls while allowing light to pour through the stained-glass windows. Strength and openness, working together.
Construction of Notre Dame began in 1163 and took nearly two centuries to complete. The flying buttresses were added in the 13th century as an innovative solution to support its Gothic design.
The Star of Notre Dame translates those structural lines into a radial form. Angular yet balanced. Grounded yet reaching. A small architectural echo of light and support.
